Exam Tips & Revision Guide
Proven strategies to help you revise smarter, manage exam stress, and achieve your best grades.
Start Early & Plan
- Begin revising at least 8–10 weeks before your first exam.
- Create a realistic revision timetable that covers every subject.
- Prioritise weaker topics but don't neglect your stronger ones.
Active Recall
- Test yourself rather than passively re-reading notes.
- Use flashcards, practice questions, and our Quiz Mode.
- Cover up your notes and try to reproduce key facts from memory.
Spaced Repetition
- Revisit topics at increasing intervals (1 day, 3 days, 1 week…).
- Short, frequent sessions beat long cramming marathons.
- Tick off notes and questions as you go so you can see what needs revisiting.
Past Paper Practice
- Complete past papers under timed conditions.
- Mark your answers using the mark scheme to learn examiner expectations.
- Focus on command words: describe, explain, evaluate, compare.
Exam Technique
- Read every question twice before writing.
- Allocate roughly one minute per mark.
- Show all working in Maths and Science — marks are awarded for method.
- For longer answers, plan briefly before writing.
Look After Yourself
- Get 8–9 hours of sleep, especially the night before an exam.
- Take regular breaks (try 25 mins study, 5 mins rest).
- Stay hydrated and eat well — your brain needs fuel.
- Don't compare yourself to others; focus on your own progress.
